A survey by Keep Britain Tidy asked motorists to rank the most irritating habits of other drivers.
Top of the irritability chart were people who threw litter out of their car window 92 per cent of respondents said this made their blood boil.
The second most hated type was the spitter 88 per cent said people who used the motorways as a spittoon were deeply offensive.
Following closely behind were drivers who used mobile phones (84 per cent) and those who did their make-up in the rear view mirror (73 per cent.)
Driving too fast irritated 68 per cent, but driving too slow was nearly as infuriating, at 63 per cent.
Beeping at the opposite sex and middle lane drivers got the thumbs down from 60 and 59 per cent, and nose pickers (55 per cent) nosed ahead of people who played loud music in their cars (54 per cent).
