David Williams, headteacher of Kingsdown School, said: "Our results are better than ever in the school's history, the students have done exceptionally well.

"We had a record turnout of students coming to collect their results, out of 227 students 220 came to the school so we had a wonderful atmosphere.

"The girls lead over the boys has fallen to just 2.2 per cent"

Mike Hopkins, principal of Swindon College, said: "Most of our 400 GCSE pupils are adults taking the courses part time, which is the hardest way to study. We're proud of their performance.

"More than 80 per cent of students got a grade A* to C and all of our foreign languages students got at least a C, with the majority getting an A or A*."

Andrew Fleet, headteacher of Hreod Parkway School in Moredon, said: "A higher number of candidates than ever before have gained over 10 passes at Grade C and above.

"The teaching staff are to be congratulated and we would like to thank the parents for their support."

Bryn Harrison, assistant head of Commonweal School in Old Town, said: "We were impressed with out results, they were an improvement on last year.

"The gap between boys and girls has closed from 20 per cent last time to less than three per cent now, which we are very pleased about."
