OUTSTANDING achievement was the order of the day at Greendown School. And with a new block set to open in September, it is an exciting time for the West Swindon school.

Chris Lawrence, 16, from Westlea picked up five A*s, three As, two Bs and one C. He also took A-level maths two years early, and although his grade is yet to be confirmed he knows he has passed. He also took his GCSE in maths two years early at the age of 14, and will take the rest of his A-levels at New College.

He said: "The A-level was hard, but my maths teacher was brilliant. I enjoy maths, it's logical and you just get on with it.

"I want to go to Oxford or Cambridge but I don't yet know what I want to do for a career. I'll maybe be an accountant or something."

Matt Fidler, 16, from Freshbrook got straight As in his 10 GCSEs, with six at A*. He will study for his A-levels at Cirencester College.

He said: "I have just got back from holiday in France so I had no time to worry about what my results were going to be. I only got home at 2am."

Headteacher Steve O'Sullivan said the school's overall results had risen once again. He said: "Today is about celebrating the hard work of all our pupils and the partnership between them and our teaching staff.

"This is their day but we must not forget the hard work of our teachers and parents."
