The moment of truth came at 11am for pupils at Dorcan Technology College.
And judging by the many happy faces, it was good news for many.
Kim Packenham, head of year 11, said: "There are a lot of smiling faces here today, which is great to see.
"Many of them will be off to where they want to go. Pupils and staff have worked really hard to get these results."
Many pupils will be sad to leave their pals.
Kevan Murtagh, 16, who is going to Swindon College in September to study for a national diploma in graphic design, bagged two Bs and four Cs.
He said: "I am fairly pleased with my results they were good. It will be sad leaving school though."
Craig Reed, 16, notched up seven Bs and five Cs after deciding to change his ways.
He said: "I am really pleased with what I achieved.
"I was told that unless I pulled my socks up I would be going nowhere. I am glad I listened. Those words made me work.
"I gave what I could and fortunately it's pulled off. I would just like to thank my tutor Mr Williams, who put me straight, and Miss Pugh who taught me for science.
"It's been a real struggle but it's been worth it."
Craig, who is hoping to work in marine conservation, plans to study for a two-year diploma in animal management in September at Swindon College.
