REGARDING the sudden interest of Coun Mike Bawden in a resurgence of the facilities available for those of my generation (swimming, boating etc) at Coate Water, I am undecided whether to laugh or cry (EA Aug 14).

If by a miracle these facilities could be restored, they would be completely overwhelmed by the totally irresponsible growth in the population of Swindon which has brought the infrastructure of a small Victorian town to the brink of collapse.

Those responsible for this desecration cannot be found amongst its residents.

The drip feed from Swindon council to your newspaper of 'jam tomorrow' is an unforgivable insult to its rapidly increasing population deprived of facilities which those of my generation took for granted.

My personal contribution to Swindon council's promises of 'jam tomorrow' would be rocket flights to the moon for the local population launched from Lydiard Park, and subsidised by an increase in council tax.
