A ROYAL Mail worker got a surprise when he returned to his van after collecting some post in Old Town.

A red Rover had collided with the side of it, denting an area near the wheel trim, before apparently being abandoned.

The postman, 60-year-old Colin Kinsman, said: "I just couldn't believe it, there was no one around.

"When I came out this red Rover 820i was parked right under my van." The incident occurred outside Little London Court at about 5.10pm on Thursday evening.

The car was empty, so Mr Kinsman called the police. A few minutes later, about 5.30pm, two young men suddenly appeared, described as being in their early-20s.

They got in the car and drove off.

"One of them said to me, 'there's no damage is there?' then they jumped in and off they went. I wasn't going to stop them," said Mr Kinsman.

"I wasn't sure what had happened. Either someone had lost it and gone into the side of me, or it was parked on the other side of the road and the brakes failed.

"I can see the funny side of it."

Inspector Bill Halsey confirmed last night, that inquiries are continuing in the Cheltenham area to locate the driver of the Rover car.
