When mum Elizabeth Morton took six children to watch a Walt Disney film, they had a rude awakening because cinema staff mixed up the film reels.

Mrs Morton, 43, from Rodbourne Cheney, was expecting to see Piglet's Big Movie at the Cineworld cinema in Greenbridge, Swindon.

But after watching an advert for condoms, the certificate 15 film American Wedding, also known as American Pie 3, appeared on screen.

With a three-year-old and several other young children in her care, Mrs Morton was shocked to say the least.

She said: "I couldn't believe it. After the adverts for adults and trailers for racy films like Calendar Girls and Legally Blonde Two the alarm bells were ringing."

Then the wrong film started playing. Instead of being greeted by the sight of Winnie the Pooh's friend, Piglet, characters from American Wedding appeared on screen.

Mrs Morton said: "At this point someone in the cinema went out to notify staff of the problem. In hindsight it is quite funny, but at the time I was very concerned that such a basic mistake could be made."

Within minutes staff managed to stop the film and put on the one intended to be shown, Piglet's Big Movie.

The mishap occurred last week when Mrs Morton was looking after a relation's children, Hazel Leedham, eight, Robert Leedham, 11 and Kate Leedham, 12. Her daughter Catherine, 16, also joined the cinema outing with two youngsters Warren Blunt, three, and Sammy Blunt, seven.

To make amends for the error, viewers were all given a free ticket to see a film of their choice.

Mrs Morton said: "The manager apologised profusely and said that human error was to blame for the mix-up. I think they will learn from the lesson and double check that the correct film has been inserted in future."

Andy Hudson, spokesman for Cineworld, said: "The problem was rectified in minutes and we haven't had any complaints following the incident."
