MORE than 7The new Lord Pembroke, Lady Alice, Lady Jemima and the Countess of Pembroke00 people gathered at St Mary and St Nicholas Church, Wilton, last Thursday, for the funeral of Henry Herbert, the 17th Earl of Pembroke and 14th Earl of Montgomery.

Among the mourners were Princess Alexandra, a cousin of the Queen, and the Marquis of Lansdowne, who was representing the Prince of Wales.

Waking The Dead actor Trevor Eve and his actress wife, Sharon Maughan, best known for her appearances in the Gold Blend coffee advertisements, were also present, together with their daughter, Alice, one of Lord Pembroke's goddaughters.

Rector of Wilton Canon Bede Cooper took the service and he met the family as they arrived at the church, just before 11.30am.

Lady Pembroke, Lord Pembroke's second wife, led their three young daughters, the Ladies Jemima, Alice and Katie Herbert, into the church.

She was followed by the new earl, William Herbert, and her three stepdaughters, Lady Sophia Murray Threipland, who was with her husband, Alexander Murray Threipland, Lady Emma Herbert and Lady Katinka Herbert.

The Earl of Arran, a close friend of the Pembroke family, delivered the address.

Later, there was a private family cremation and Lord Pembroke's ashes were buried in the private family graveyard at Wilton House.
