ANDY KING insists it will take more than 90 minutes to judge Tony Adams' managerial credentials but the Town boss is focused on ruining his opposite number's first match in charge.

The former Arsenal and England captain has taken the helm at Wycombe Wanderers in a blaze of publicity but once the media interest has subsided, King knows Adams will be judged solely on results.

He said: "If I can ruin Tony Adams' first weekend as a manager then I will. If I can't then good luck to him from there on in."

King has nothing but respect for Adams' playing record and believes he will bring qualities to his new role. However, there are no guarantees in football management.

He said: "I have no doubt he (Adams) will bring great motivational and organisational skills to Wycombe as well as a will to win.

"However, he has no managerial background.

"We will make judgments on Tony Adams as a manager after years in the job when he's had no money to spend. It's very different down here from life at the top.

"Now isn't the time for judgments though."

Despite King's reluctance to make predictions over Adams' future, there is no disguising a desire to see the 37-year-old succeed.

He said: "People are given opportunities in life. I will be sending him a fax to wish him every success. I hope he goes on to enjoy a run of success after Saturday."

However, Swindon Town and not Tony Adams is King's primary concern.

The County Ground boss has injury and suspension worries ahead of tomorrow's clash but he is swift to point out that is hardly a shock.

He said: "Apart from the early weeks of the season, I haven't been in a position to name the same team in successive weeks.

"Tommy Mooney finished training early yesterday, Sam Parkin is obviously not 100 per cent and Jon Stevenson has flu.

"So it is a potential striking problem, again that's nothing new to me."

Matty Hewlett is suspended and at this stage the most likely option is for Andy Gurney to push into midfield with Alan Reeves slotting into the back three.

Grant Smith or Brian Howard could partner Gurney and Stefani Miglioranzi in the centre of the park. A decision on David Duke's fitness was due to be made after training today.

King said: "Whatever the problems, this is still the FA Cup and there is a buzz that comes with it. As a player you dream of the final, for me as a manager the dream is that third round tie at Goodison Park."

Rival boss Adams himself acknowledges that he could have been in red rather than blue tomorrow had he agreed to assist King a year ago.

He said: "I spoke to Andy King last year. He needed some support down there but it wasn't the right time for me at that moment."
