TWO accidents one of which involved a security van carrying cash occurred within 100 yards of each other on the M4.

The first happened at 12.30pm yesterday around one-and-a half miles west of junction 15 when a Vauxhall Passat and a Vauxhall Vectra collided while travelling in the fast lane. Both vehicles, which were travelling westbound, were quickly moved to the hard shoulder.

The driver of the Passat suffered neck injuries. Firefighters attended to clear fuel, which had spilled onto the road. As officers were dealing with the incident, a second collision occurred 100 yards from the scene.

A VW Beetle and a Brinks security van collided and hit the central reservation before coming to a stop in the fast lane.

No one was injured, and both vehicles were moved to the hard shoulder.

Police said the security van was not carrying a significant quantity of cash.

A section of the third lane was closed for around 15 minutes, but there were no traffic problems.
