Ref. 27924-86ART students are getting the message to other youngsters that drinking and driving is not cool.

Young people and those who have just thrown away their L-plates are the target of New College students who have been commended in a national competition for their pack for new drivers.

It includes a set of posters, a key ring, postcards and a card giving details of average alcohol limits. The packs will be used by Swindon Council and may be seen across Britain.

The students met Swindon mayor Coun Derek Benfield who congratulated them on their achievements in the Prince Michael Road Safety Awards.

Student Rachel Smitten, 18, who helped design the packs said: "We are shocked but very delighted by the commendation."

Also commended were pupils from Hreod Parkway's School's theatre and education group, who researched and produced a video aimed at teaching road safety to pupils.

The council's road safety manager, Margaret Tester, nominated the two projects for the awards and is delighted that they have been recognised.
