THE Swindon Midweek Cricket League is looking to expand next summer after another successful season.

The league held their AGM and end-of-season presentation night at the Swindon Conservative Club, and already thoughts are turning to next season.

The 2003 campaign featured 32 teams one fell by the wayside early on in four divisions.

But fixture secretary Mike Roberts said: "Obviously we are looking to attract more teams from businesses and organisations in the Swindon area.

"About 15 years ago we had eight divisions, but we've been pretty contstant recently with four divisions for the past few years.

"We'd like to see more teams involved and for any teams thinking of joining, it would certainly help them as all the fixtures are organised for them.

"All they have to do is let us know which ground they'll be playing at.

"Another four or five teams and we will look to create another division."

The league operates on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and any interested parties should contact Mike Roberts on 01793 656259.

At the presentation evening, John Baden and Lee Thomas of Compton Holdings collected the Division One trophy, Kevin Flay picked up the trophy for Division Two champions Crosslink, and James Smith (Nomads) and Dave Allen (Purton) the Division Three and Division Four trophies respectively.

In the individual awards, Crosslink's Andy Lewis picked up the award for the best bowling performance (7-24) and Mark Collier of Purton the batting award for his innings of 118.

Chris Sheppard, secretary of the Wiltshire County Cricket Club, made all the presentations on the night.
