SALISBURY City's climb back up the league table following their FA Cup sojourn continued when they picked up three more points away at Rothwell Town.

Their 2-0 success was their third win on the bounce proving wrong any doubters who had expected a cup hangover to kick in after their Hillsborough adventure.

Manager Nick Holmes said he was more than happy to see his side take maximum points against a determined side whose league position does not do them justice.

"It was a job well done and a decent job done at that," he said.

"After the Eastleigh game everyone's expectations rise - especially the supporters - and they expect to see that kind of performance week in, week out.

"Rothwell are a well organised team. They don't concede that many goals - they don't score that many either - but they're a side that will cause a lot of teams problems but I'm happy that we did enough to take the points and at the end of the day that is what we're there to do."

Whites, starting without skipper Scott Bartlett, took the lead when the Stuart James-Josh Thomas routine paid off for the second time in three days.

Thomas rose above his markers to head home James' 15th minute corner.

The conditions and the pitch clearly did not suit Salisbury's fluent passing game, and the home side should have had an equaliser soon, after but Nick Mason somehow lofted the ball over from close range.

Within moments new signing Craig Davis almost doubled his side's lead, but his header was superbly saved.

City rode their luck at times as Rothwell looked for a way back and 'keeper Kevin Sawyer was called upon to make a number of important stops.

However, City were home and dry four minutes from time when Adam Wallace squared the ball to substitute Leigh Phillips - on for Matt Tubbs.

The striker made no mistake netting his first goal for the Whites since October 1.
