Ref. 27895-16STAFF dressed as nurses stormed an executive boardroom meeting at Nationwide's UK headquarters and demanded cash for Children in Need.

The women, who in previous years have donned fairy and schoolgirl outfits, swept the building in Pipers Way causing mischief in their wake.

"The girls certainly woke the executives up a bit," said delighted Sandy Simpson, sales manager for Nationwide Direct.

"The execs gave us around £50, which was really good of them.

"They also gave us time off and allowed us to make loads of mess."

The building, due to its size and large staffing numbers, was turned into a makeshift call centre for the BBC appeal.

Many members of staff gave up their free time to man the phone lines and take donations.

Mrs Simpson added: "The people here are fantastic. Everyone was really up for this one.

"People worked from 9am to midnight to make this happen and we can't praise them enough."

Around £500 was also raised in a raffle with a further £400 from a cake stall.
