SALISBURY College principal Howard O'Keefe has left the college after just nine months in the post.

In a terse statement, the college's board of corporation said that, as of November 20, Mr O'Keefe was no longer an employee of Salisbury College.

Mr O'Keefe took over from previous principal Gill Brain in March, inheriting an institution in dire financial straits.

He was brought in with a brief to continue the college's success in offering a range of courses and securing good results, and to eliminate the deficit by July.

Salisbury was Mr O'Keefe's eighth college - he previously held senior posts in Hull and Chelmsford.

The college has refused to give any details of the circumstances of Mr O'Keefe's departure or his plans for the future.

It has said only that it is actively seeking to make an interim appointment.

It was only earlier this month that Mr O'Keefe stood on stage at the college's graduation ceremony at Salisbury City Hall and gave an upbeat speech praising the hard work of students and teaching staff.
