PARKLAND trees and hedgerows will be planted along the Hreod Burna Brook after £18,000 was given to enhance the landscape near Rodbourne Green.
Copses of specimen trees will take root and existing woodland and hedgerows along the brook will be managed with the help of the money.
The Great Western Community Forest, which aims to maintain green recreation space around Swindon and provide a link to the surrounding countryside, is running the project.
Community forest representative Heather Lilley said: "The grant is a wonderful opportunity for the start of real positive landscape change along the brook.
"Local people have come up with plenty of practical project ideas, from clean up days to hedge planting and new pathways.
"People are being invited to get practically involved starting with an activity day planned for this December," she said.
The grant came from the ALCOA Foundation, through Swindon-based AFL Telecomm-unications Europe.
Director of AFL, Paul Thompson said: "This gives us a chance to support a worthwhile community initiative, which we hope will provide long term improvements to the local environment."
