I AM perturbed to read recently that the council is considering closing two of its residential homes, with Wick House being possibly one of them.

Although I have not had any direct experience of the residential section of Wick House, I have stayed within the Shortlands facility (the respite area of Wick House) a number of times now and I cannot praise highly enough the care I received there.

It appears to me that the area of elderly care within the Swindon Borough is one that would benefit from an increase of care homes rather than the disturbing current trend of removing these important facilities.

However, if economies must be made, then I would suggest that the respite care area of the Cheriton Nursing Home would be a more appropriate area for cost saving via closing.

Having spent two weeks there when Shortlands was closed I have to say that the Cheriton respite area leaves a lot to be desired.

They have no bathing facilities nor external access areas for wheelchair bound inmates which leaves Wick House, in my opinion, an infinitely better facility to remain open.
