Swindon's Motorola has scooped an award for saving BT £8 million.

The annual Investing In Excellence awards seek to recognise the best suppliers that deliver.

The mobile phone and communications company was the winner in the Innovation and Responsive-ness category.

It designed and installed a central data centre system and created a new billing system as part of BT Open-world

The technology meant BT was the first to deliver public access to a wireless internet connection.

BT's Meryl Bushell said: "Our suppliers are a key component of our success and the best ones are relentless in their quest to deliver the very best products and services to BT."

Colin Bendall, director of European key accounts at Motorola said he was delighted with the award.

"It underlies our close working relationship with BT and we look forward to working with the BT Open-zone team to continue to lead the market in delivering leading edge technology."
