THE discovery at Cotswold Water Park of only the second woolly mammoth skull to have been found in Britain is a triumph for the person who found it, for the archaeologists who unearthed it, and for Wiltshire.

A tangible reminder that our time here is little more than a tick of the cosmic clock, it could become a fascinating tourist attraction.

It is to be hoped that the skull is displayed near where it was found, rather than making its way, like so many other such artefacts, to London.

Otherwise there might have to be a Hands Off Our Mammoth campaign
