Walcot duo Jake Sheppard and Josh Osman both returned triumphant from Reading with decisive wins in their first outings of the New Year.

Both victories will increase their confidence for the National Schoolboy championships which get under way at the end of the month.

Sheppard was involved in the bout of the night which was a highly entertaining encounter with Berinsfield rival Robbie Wright.

Both were very committed and well-schooled teenagers who gave everything they had to offer for three absorbing rounds.

But it was the 15-year-old Swindonian who had the better ammunition in his armoury, landing straight rights off a solid, probing and effective jabs to claim the votes from all three ringside markers.

Sheppard's variety of punching, fluently switching between head and body, saw him claim the opening period and he always had the edge on his Oxfordshire rival.

Osman, also 15, had to overcome a standing count imposed by Reading rival Richard O'Brien from a solid cluster in the opening round but remained focused on his task, landing more precise shots than his opponent.

His superior productivity, landing neat right hands and clusters off the jab along with his nimble footwork repeatedly forced the Berkshire teenager onto the back foot.

Osman was also cunning and evasive when O'Brien tried to come back on the counter and he thwarted a last ditch rally aimed at reversing the tide.
