THE mysteries of ancient Egypt are the subject of a talk at the Swindon Museum and Art gallery.

Local archaeologist Bryn Walters will be providing a fresh perspective on controversies surrounding the boy king Tutankhamun and the fate of Queen Nefertiti, who was immortalised in temple and monuments. Mr Walters, who is a visiting lecturer on Ancient Egypt for the University of Bath in Swindon, will explore the suggestion by a team of British researchers that a 3,000-year-old mummy sealed in the tomb in the Valley of the Kings, near Luxor, could be the queen's body.

Mr Walter said: "The expedition and the opinions which have been advanced have been highly controversial.

"My talk puts the time, period and historical personalities in perspective and I will consider who the mystery body might be and its relationship to Tutankhamun."

The talk is the first in a series organised by the Friends of Swindon Museum and Art Gallery, in Bath Road.

Future lectures will explore the Roman site at Groundwell Ridge, in North Swindon, and a nostalgic look at Swindon over the last century.

Tickets cost £4 for each talk, £3 for members of the museum, groups and full-time students. For details call 01793 466556.
