TWO hard frosts on Friday and Saturday night killed off any chance of good sport over the weekend and because of this weights in matches were much lower than normal.

Anglers practising for the next North Wessex Winter League semi-finals on Devizes AC's waters of Kennet and Avon Canal near Semington were rewarded with some good catches of around the 10lb mark but elsewhere on the lakes around the area it was very hard going as the results show.

Ivy House lakes can always guarantee some sport in these conditions but these were much lower than usual last week. Their match results were as follows:

Results: Wednesday January 14: 1, Alan Oram (peg 47) 18-4-0; 2, Paul Mansley (33) 18-2-0; 3, Elick Payne (31) 15-9-0.

Friday Veterans: 1, John Read (43) 20-7-0; 2, Art Kemble (41) 16-6-0; 3, Graham Rose (46) 11-9-0.

Saturday January 17: 1, Paul Connor (46) 22-0-0; 2, Paul Ogbourne (24) 17-8-0; 3, Mark Boston (45) 16-6-0; 4, Richard Baston (13) 15-13-0.

Half the lake at Roughgrounds was frozen for Highworth's AC Last Catch Trophy on Sunday. Due to this weights were very low with the odd small roach feeding.

Gary Laidler again topped the weights with his 1-6-0 and was followed by Brian Holness 1-1-0 and Mick Mills was third with 8oz.

BCA match at Sabre lake: 1, Paul Wallis 12-8-0; 2, Ian Parker 5-5-0; 3, Mick Robins 4-2-0.

The Peatmoor Junior Winter League 10-13 year ago group was won by Ed Bryant with 10.5oz. Runner up with 1oz was Nathan Reeves and in third place with 0.5oz was Danielle Freeman. The 14-16 year age group was won by Troy Weaver with 3lb 8oz. Runner up with 2lb 8oz was Russel Willmot and in third place with 3.5oz was John Gaylard.

The Intermediate age group was won by Mark Kimber with 1lb 5oz. Runner up with 1lb 1.5oz was Daniel Black and in third place with 8oz was Gareth Jackson.
