I TAKE exception to A. Ainsley's letter regarding traffic problems in Devizes (Gazette, 15/1/04).
If he or she had managed to restrain their hatred of 4x4 vehicles, then ok, somewhat overstated, but ok. But to assume that every 4x4 is driven by an idiot is unfair and untrue. I have an unblemished driving record going back 40 years and as you may guess, I drive a 4x4, and have done for the past 13 years.
However, it has always been true that when driving, the only way to hope to remain safe is to think of every other driver on the road as unbalanced, and to make allowances for the stupid things they may do. So perhaps, to keep the children safe, A. Ainsley should revise his or her look at other drivers and assume that every other driver is an idiot, not just especially those in 4x4s.
