Ref. 27812SIX teenagers will be struggling to keep their eyes open during lessons at Matravers School today after going without sleep for 48 hours.

The sixth formers stayed awake from 7pm on Tuesday until 7pm last night to raise funds for their trip to the Gambia next month.

During the day Samantha Matthew, Lizzie Fisher, Holly Noyce, Gareth Clifford, Sarah Lowe and Sarah Hannell went to lessons as normal.

But outside the classroom they kept their minds from sleep by playing games and devising collages depicting school life in Westbury to take with them to the Gambia.

In total 16 pupils will be sampling everyday life in a Gambian family and making a video diary of their experiences. The sponsorship cash they receive will fund their airfares to the Gambia, but any surplus will go towards paying for their African friends to make a return trip.

This will be the third time Matravers School has linked up with the Gambia.
