NIGEL Tripp has reacted with indifference to Calne Town's approach for midfielder Kevin Banks.

Calne made their interest official on Wednesday, but the Melksham Town manager made it clear he would not lose any sleep if Banks decided to leave.

He said: "The way he has been playing and conducting himself off the field for us has not been great.

"He lacks a lot of fitness and to be honest if he wants to go down a level then that is up to him. Even if he goes to Calne he will still have to get himself fit.

"He let us down at Bishop Sutton but I gave him a chance on Boxing Day and to be honest he didn't play that well."

Banks, 20, has been out of favour and out of the squad for the last couple of matches and Tripp says the onus is on the player to prove he still wants to play Screwfix League Premier Division football.

He said: "If he wants to get fit he should be doing it in his own time. He thinks he can do it by just running around on a Saturday and he is not the only one who thinks that.

"The higher the level you play the more this is true but the thing is you can only play at a higher level if you put it in before.

"John Freegard is a great example. They should look at the way he conducts himself off the pitch at the age of 40 and learn from it.

"I would be disappointed if Kevin threw the towel in at this level but if he goes he will still have to apply himself."

Tripp has a number of selection problems ahead of tomorrow's trip to Elmore, a match that Tripp identifies as a must win game. He will miss the game because of a pulled hamstring and centre back Dan Harvey is struggling with a knee injury.

Former Swindon Town youngster Piyaphong Khaekphong has signed for Melksham Town. The 16-year-old midfielder, who was released earlier this month, will play for the reserves against Shrewton tomorrow.
