SAMMY IGOE'S miserable scoring record for Town is earning him earache both on the training pitch and at home from his wife.

The 28-year-old has proved a big hit this season with his silky skills.

However, the former Reading and Portsmouth man is not entirely happy with life, despite Town's lofty position in the table.

He can cope with jibes about the red streak in his hair but the jokes about his lack of goalscoring prowess are starting to get to him.

Igoe's delightful chip in the pre-season win over Torquay and his crafty free-kick on the opening day of the campaign against Sheffield Wednesday suggested that he would prove to be a rich source of goals.

Irritatingly for Igoe, he has endured a dreadful barren run since netting the final goal in a 4-0 thrashing of Notts County back in August, leaving him with just two strikes to his name.

Thankfully, his habitual absence from the scoresheet has not proved damaging to Town's promotion chances thanks to goals provided by Tommy Mooney, Sam Parkin and friends.

And since having the red streak in his hair, Town have not put a foot wrong.

However, enough is enough and Igoe knows it is about time he heard his name booming out from the tannoy once again.

He joked: "It's really bad at the moment.

"I can't even hit the target on the training pitch and the manager's giving me untold stick about it.

"If that wasn't bad enough, I was talking to my wife the other day and even she mentioned how long it had been since I'd scored.

"All I'd say in my defence is that I was out for quite a while with the wrist injury but I've been back in for a while now and a goal has got to come sooner or later.

"I don't care how it goes in either.

"It'd be nice to score with a real screamer but I'd be just as happy if it ends up in the net off my backside. I'd be very disappointed if I didn't find myself scoring again before the end of the campaign.

And I'll be giving it everything to make sure that doesn't happen."

Brian Howard leads the midfield goal 'charge' with four, while Stefani Miglioranzi has struck three times.

Steve Robinson has rattled in two goals with acting skipper Matt Hewlett yet to add to his spectacular strike against Notts County in August.
