Ref. 12347/1GAZETTE & HERALD: Thieves stole a radio, which volunteers say kept them going, from a charity shop. Chippenham's Red Cross shop manager Valerie Guttridge, 30, said everyone who works at the shop is "gutted" by the theft.

Most of the shop's items are donated but she decided to buy the £30 radio because the music helps her staff keep going.

But now the only radio they have is old, battered and difficult to tune.

"To take the only thing we actually paid out for to provide a comfortable environment for our volunteers is really horrible," she said.

"If you are working in the shop on your own having a radio boosts your morale and provides a bit of company. It will be sorely missed."

She said items, such as clothes, have been stolen from the shop in the past and fears thieves see the shop as a soft target.
