SALISBURY men enjoyed a victorious weekend, beating lowly Gosport in a league match before progressing to the semi-finals of the Wiltshire Cup, thanks to a 7-3 win over West Wilts.

Sunday's cup match got off to a slow start.

A patchy first half and a number of missed opportunities left the scores level at 1-1 at half time.

Salisbury certainly left it late before imposing their authority on the game, scoring from three short corners in a row, to cushion their lead.

Andy Grandfield scored the game's only goal from open play, drawing the West Wilts 'keeper out before rounding him to hit the target.

Two more short corners caught the West Wilts defence on the hop.

Salisbury will face Devizes in the semi-finals later this month.

It was almost the same story a day earlier in the league against Gosport.

Following a sluggish start, Salisbury conceded a goal before man of the match Ben Croxall missed a sitter.

Trailing at the break 1-0, Salisbury rediscovered their form and rhythm in the second half, tearing the Gosport defence apart and firing off six goals in quick succession to wrap up what was eventually a comfortable win.

John Baker, Charlie Yianguo, James Whittle, Andy Grandfield, Andy Miles and Ben Croxall were all on target for Salisbury before Gosport added a late consolation.

On Saturday, Salisbury will be looking to consolidate fourth place when they take on Blandford at home (1pm).
