WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: AFC STRATTON were made to pull out all the stops to beat Biddestone 2-1 in a closely-fought game at the Crosslink Centre.

The visitors had inflicted only the second defeat of the season on Trowbridge Town last week, and proved to be a stern test for the home side.

After a fairly even opening a free kick by Rick Casey was headed into the net by Dwain Quinn to put the home side in front.

The visitors fought back to score through Ollie McAninch 10 minutes befor the break to send the sides in level at half -time.

Biddestone saw plenty of the ball in the second half but failed to create any real clear-cut openings and paid the penalty when Quinn struck again with another good header to make sure of victory.

Stratton now lead the table by 13 points from Purton Reserves, who climbed above Trowbridge and Biddestone following their 1-0 win at Pewsey.

Purton manager Ian Restell said: "I don't think a Purton reserve side have reached such dizzy heights before.

"We ground out three points, with Sam Collier scoring the winner midway through the second-half. We made hard work of it by not taking our chances but it was three points."

Aldbourne failed to break down a stubborn Chiseldon Castrol defence and had to be content with a point in a 0-0 draw. It brought to an end a run of four straight wins by the home side.

Devizes Town Reserves chalked up an overdue victory when they accouted for Melksham Town Reserves 4-2.

Cricklade Town failed to reach the semi- finals of the Corsham Print Senior Cup when they were beaten 2-0 at Bradford Town.

There was plenty of action in the Junior Division One game between leaders Trowbridge Town Reserves and AFC Stratton Reserves. The Swindon side were leading 4-1 deep into the second half but a late rally saw the home side score three times and then hit the bar with a last-minute penalty.

Matt Minnus (2), Adam Nunn and Dave Mitchell scored for the Town and Mark Ayres, Lee Rath, Kevin Coles and Steve Stewart for Stratton. Adam Nunn hit the bar with the late penalty.

Bromham kept in touch with the leaders with a 6-0 away win over Cricklade Reserves. Danny Powell and Jerry Thompson scored a brace each, Nathan West and James McLaughlin adding the other two.

Goals from Craig Green and Danny Pearson enabled Blunsdon United to inflict a surprise 2-1 defeat on Sherston, and Wanborough and Calne Town Reserves shared the points in a 1-1 draw, Ross Law netting for United.

A late strike by John Webb gave Westside a 2-1 away win over Wroughton Reserves. Earlier Ryan Keetch had struck for the home side and Mark Connelly for the visitors.

Wootton Bassett United were trailing 2-0 to Aldbourne Reserves until the closing minutes of the game when Danny Groom struck with a penalty, and then took a free kick to enable Ian Curtis to level .

Ferndale Rodbourne gained a 4-2 win over Marlborough Town Reserves, Terry Bown (2), Jason Johns and Robert Griffin scoring.

Shock result in Junior Division Two was the 3-1 home defeat inflicted on Trax by visitors Pinehurst OB,

Daniel Webb (2) and Liam Preedy were on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Swindon Asians pulled three points clear at the top of the table following a 2-0 away win over Lower Stratton. Luke Embling and George Green were on target.
