PROFESSIONAL visual artists in Kennet have been invited to apply for an artist's residency in Finland.

The offer would give the opportunity to stay and work in Devizes' twin town of Tornio from two to six months completely free.

The successful artists will be chosen by the Vippola Artists Residency Committee, and will be required to work with local schools, community groups, arts organisations and museums through exhibitions, workshops and lectures.

The Vippola Artist in Residence programme began in 1998.

It is the result of links built between Kennet District Council and the Culture Office in Tornio.

Applications in writing, with examples of work, are invited from artists interested in the residency.

Applications should explain why the artist wishes to take up the residency.

They should also include the artist's initial ideas on how they would work with other groups such as schools, arts organisations and the city museum.

Applications should be sent to Jo Beal, the arts development officer, Leisure Services, Kennet District Council, Bath Road Devizes SN10 2AP.

The deadline is April 5.
