I hope the BNP candidate will not be elected to Calne Town Council but in our democracy he must be allowed to try.
To quote Voltaire "I disagree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
James Gray should not have refused to share a platform with the BNP; he should have listened to them and countered their arguments with better ones. Nor should you have branded them Villains of the Week for taking part in the normal democratic process. Far worse, surely, were the thugs who stole and vandalised a disabled pensioner's scooter which you report on another page.
We must try to be fair, even to those of whom we disapprove.
