I WAS horrified at the article in last week's Wiltshire Times regarding transforming the country park.

This is the only facility in the area where the public can enjoy peace and tranquillity. In the spring wild grasses are a sight to behold and there is wildlife and birdsong to enjoy.

The park is used by joggers, parents and toddlers, prams and pushchairs, people with disabilities using electric buggies, dog walkers and walkers.

I urge the council not to bow to requests for the football club and leisure facilities to be built there. There is plenty of land that could be bought or derelict buildings that could be demolished to facilitate this.

I note Cllr Payne's comments that not everyone is getting enjoyment out of the park. Well, not everyone enjoys football!

The park is used from 5.30am in the morning until late at night. I have never seen the car park empty and on my daily visits I meet and talk to more friendly people in half-an-hour than I would in a month in any other place.

I urge all of those who are against the proposals to write to WWDC before March 10, putting forward their case for leaving the park to develop as an area of natural beauty which everyone has an equal opportunity to enjoy.
