RESIDENTS living in Paxcroft Mead are venting their frustration after new plans for a 187-home development on the estate failed to quash their concerns over access.

Redrow Homes has submitted rejigged plans for the development on land between Paxcroft Mead and The Beeches, commonly known as H8, but residents are furious there is still no sign of a second route into Trowbridge for traffic.

Plans for a bus-only route linking the new development to Hilperton Road, past Halfway Cottage, have been resurrected, but developers have offered no solution to what residents see as a looming traffic nightmare.

Hundreds of people already living on the estate fear by leaving Leap Gate as the only access route into Trowbridge, it could lead to two years worth of diggers and trucks passing by their front doors as the new homes are built.

In the long-term, with the potential for up to 333 new houses in total, it could lead to thousands more cars on the A361 every day adding to what is already a growing congestion problem.

Campaigners argue if a second route linked the new estate to Hilperton Road, over land known as H3, it could slash driving distances by 1,300 metres per car.

Peter Collins, who lives in Walmesley Chase and is treasurer of the H8 Group, said residents were becoming increasingly frustrated at developers and highway officials.

"In the new plans the developers have resolved some issues but have not addressed our real concerns," he said.

"Originally we had 462 people signing a petition to stop the housing in the first place.

"I know many people are still objecting to plans as they come in but it is impossible to check with all those people each time.

"I am getting a bit frustrated. We are two years on and all that has changed is the number of houses has increased."

Mr Collins said creating a bus-only access from the estate to Hilperton Road could create more problems, with residents tempted to use the route as a short cut.

Hilperton parish council chairman Ernie Clark said: "It is a shame developers do not pay any real attention to what residents would like to see."

The H8 Group has submitted a list of objections to the district council, raising fears over the safety of children, excessive noise and road damage.
