TWO Trowbridge men have appeared in court charged with kidnapping a 31-year-old man from a flat on the Seymour estate.

Colin Cooke, 31, and Paul Rowlands, 47, were remanded in custody following a hearing at Chippenham Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

Detectives charged both men with assaulting Craig Dyer and kidnapping him from a flat in Francis Street on Thursday.

Police issued an appeal at the weekend for a third man, Paul Mills, to come forward in connection with the inquiry.

Mills contacted police in Trowbridge on Wednesday and was interviewed at Melksham police station.

The 31-year-old, who lives in the Francis Street flat at the centre of the inquiry, was released on police bail while detectives continue with the investigation.

Police were called to the Seymour estate at midday on Thursday following reports of a kidnapping.

Mr Dyer was taken by ambulance to the Royal United Hospital in Bath for treatment, and needed stitches to wounds on his head, face, wrists and hands.

DC Emma Powell said: "Mr Dyer was treated by hospital staff and released the same day. Obviously he was scared and shaken.

"There is still a lot of work for us to do, collecting statements and waiting for the results of forensic tests."

Forensic teams spent Thursday afternoon scouring the flat and surrounding area for clues.

Police issued an appeal to fire brigade and ambulance crews for help in locating a car subsequently found abandoned in County Way on Friday morning.

The car was seized and impounded for further forensic tests to be carried out.

Both Cooke, of Frome Road, and Rowlands, of Wesley Road, are due to appear at Swindon Crown Court today on charges of grievous bodily harm and kidnap.

Mills will report back to Trowbridge police station to answer bail later this month.
