Highworth Juniors were knocked out of the Cirencester & District Cup in an epic semi-final at Oaksey.

Malmesbury defeated the Swindon side 5-4 after extra time in the under 15 clash, gaining belated revenge after losing to Highworth in the final two seasons ago.

They did it the hard way, coming from behind on four occasions to set up a showpiece meeting with either Purton or Tetbury.

Highworth opened the scoring at the start of the second period. Ryan King drove through the middle and crossed for Lorien Bardwell to blast home.

The game exploded into life with four goals in as many minutes midway through the second half.

Toby Young equalised on 61 minutes after Highworth failed to clear their lines from a corner, but the response was immediate when Ryan King scored.

From the restart Malmesbury were level again through Miles Young, but Ben Cowley put Highworth back in front.

Malmesbury forced extra time when Jack Ward's wind-assisted free-kick flew past Ben Goodey.

Highworth, reduced to 10 men following an injury to Daniel Whittaker, pulled ahead three minutes into extra time through King.

But Malmesbury hit back yet again three minutes later when Mark Lane netted from a corner.

With seconds to go in the first period Highworth lost another player when Alex Parker's hamstring went.

And it was no surprise when James Brown slid the ball past an advancing Goodey to put his side ahead for the first time and seal a place in the final.

In the under 14s Division, Wroughton stayed on course for the title with a 7-1 win over Cricklade.

Adam Burson scored five with Khalid Naseem hitting the other two for Wroughton.

In the under 13 section, Cricklade won 3-1 at Ashton Keynes.
