THE King is alive and well and living in Swindon or at least that's what it has looked like to rush-hour commuters over the past few days.

The early-morning drivers were left rubbing their eyes when an Elvis impersonator appeared singing and dancing at roundabouts around the town.

Michelle Tompkins, 33, of Liden spotted the legend of rock 'n' roll, complete with white jumpsuit, at the Magic Roundabout yesterday.

"I have no idea what he was doing there but he looked like he was having a lot of fun and lots of people were beeping their horn at him," she said.

The day before, Elvis delivered a solo performance at the Commonhead Roundabout where Steve Phillips of Purton caught him on camera on his way to work at Bishopstone Cheese.

He said: "I got a big surprise when I saw him in the full Elvis gear performing a load of karate moves."

"When I pipped my horn to take a picture, the Elvis gave this Superman pose."

Now we want to know why one of the greatest rock 'n' roll singers of all time has taken a sudden liking to the roundabouts of Swindon.

Elvis fans may have a new shrine to honour the King in a corner of north-east Scotland. New research suggests the singer is a direct descendent of the Presleys of Lonmay in Aberdeenshire, who emigrated to America in 1745.
