STEVE White had mixed emotions after watching his Chippenham Town side draw a blank against Dover on Saturday.

The match was turned into a lottery by the strong wind and the Chippenham boss admitted afterwards the weather ruined the game.

He said: "There was only one winner out there and that was the elements.

"The wind was absolutely drastic in the first half and although it died down a bit it was not a lot better in the second.

"It was very difficult for the lads to get a head of steam because the weather resulted in a lot of punctuations to the play.

"The ball kept getting blown out of play making it awfully difficult to play at the tempo we wanted to."

Despite the wind, Chippenham had the better of the chances that were on offer and White was left to reflect on what might have been.

He said: "We still created chances and had three or four golden opportunities.

"If Scott Walker's free kick in the first half had gone in then things might have been different.

"At the end I think Tom Gould will be the first to admit that his chance was easier to score than miss but that is the way things go sometimes."

The draw leaves Chippenham in 17th position in the table level on points with Havant and Waterlooville, who are one place out of the play-off zone in 19th.

"At the moment it does look like two points dropped," said White.

"But come the end of the season it could well be a point gained because the elements were so bad. It is not often I allow an excuse outside of football but they definitely had a valid one on Saturday."
