I HAVE just received a letter from the Royal Mail proposing to combine first and second deliveries into a single daily delivery. Customers will now receive their mail by lunchtime.

When the two-tier (first and second class) post was introduced, we were led to believe that first class would be delivered first thing the next day and second class the following day.

As recently as last week a friend posted a letter to me locally in Swindon, first class on Friday, and it was not delivered to me until about 10am the following Tuesday. Isn't the Royal Mail obtaining money by false pretences?

This appears to be the death knell of first and second class post and should be reflected in reduced charges.
