Former Wales skipper Jonathan Humphreys has become the latest player to agree fresh terms with Bath after signing a one-year contract extension with the Zurich Premiership leaders.

The veteran hooker, 34, has been in superb form this season and has proved a crucial component in Bath's league title challenge, missing just two matches of the campaign.

He has also captained the side in the absence of club skipper Danny Grewcock whose international commitments with England have resulted in spells away from the Recreation Ground.

Humphreys, who is likely to lead Bath again against London Irish in the Premiership tomorrow (2.15pm), follows in the footsteps of Steve Borthwick, Andy Beattie, Alex Crockett, Rob Hawkins, James Hudson and James Scaysbrook in pledging his future to the club.

"I thoroughly enjoy it at Bath. We have a strong squad, a fabulous coaching structure and there is a really good atmosphere at the club," he said.

"There is a feeling that we have started something special this season and I would like to think that we can reach the Premiership final at Twickenham, which would be an amazing experience.''
