COUNTY GROUND have ended Greyhound's monopoly of the Wiltshire Sunday Cup after an epic final victory over Wroughton.

The Division Three Swindon Sunday League side defeated Division One Wroughton 5-2 at Wootton Bassett's Rylands Way ground to take the trophy.

Despite their lower ranking in the league the triumph was no upset.

County Ground had already dispatched Juventus and holders Greyhound winners of the competition for four of the past five seasons en route to the final.

Promotion to Division Two has also been secured in a superb season for Stef Kuczynski's side.

Kuczynski, who also manages Stratton in the Wiltshire League, said: "We've come here the hard way.

"We've beaten Juventus, Greyhound and Moonrakers, and Wroughton were the hardest working team of the lot.

"We got beaten in the semi-finals last year by the Dog (Greyhound) and we've learned from that."

"We've only been going six years and it's been a hell of a season."

County Ground cruised into a 4-0 lead before Wroughton threatened to stage a stunning comeback in the final 20 minutes.

Rick Casey, Kevin Coles, Colin Baker and an own goal had given County Ground a seemingly untouchable lead within the hour mark.

But substitute Mitch Wyatt pulled one back after outpacing the County Ground defence and dinking the ball over the advancing keeper.

Mark Love then scrambled Wroughton's second to ensure a tense final five minutes.

But Courtney Chessell eased the nerves by stabbing home the County Ground's fifth from a long throw in the last minute.

Delighted boss Kuczynski added: "At the end of the day we knew it was going to be another hard game.

"The first 20 minutes we were hardly in the game and they had the edge.

"We started to come to life after that and I think we deserved to be ahead at half-time.

"We gave away a couple of things away at the back but Courtney popped up at the end at it was a thoroughly deserved result."
