A headed goal from Christian Ayres just before the interval was enough for Shrivenham Reserves to lift the A G Kingham Cup with a 1-0 win over AFC Wallingford A at Wantage Town's ground.

The game produced few chances despite the quality and competitiveness of the two well-matched teams.

Chris Allum should have put Wallingford in front on 20 minutes but the usually prolific finisher shot high and wide under pressure.

Shrivenham responded through Ayres, who was very close to turning in a right-wing cross, but in the 40th minute he headed his team in front from a corner kick.

Kintbury Rangers stand on the verge of a third successive title after an entertaining struggle against nearest rivals Lambourn Sports in Division 1.

After early Lambourn pressure, Spencer Annetts broke away and crossed perfectly for Mark Wilcock to put Rangers ahead with a powerful diving header.

Adrian Mooney then produced two exquisite moments of skill to put Lambourn in front firstly, turning his marker to rifle in left-footed and then instantly controlling the ball and lobbing Ali Tuttle in the Kintbury goal.

Kintbury equalised in controversial circumstances in the 53rd minute. With Michael McNally lying injured in the six-yard box, play continued and Thompson headed in the ensuing right-wing cross.

Lambourn, needing to win, fought back and a short corner in the 63rd minute was headed in by Paul Davis to put them back in front at 3-2.

Ten minutes later Michael Spence shot high into the net to get the point Kintbury needed.

Drayton took a lead through Adam Godwin in their game against Faringdon Town, but Jon Lovegrove levelled before half-time for the visitors.

Danny Curran scored from the penalty spot after he was pulled back and then he lobbed the keeper to make the final score 3-1.

In Division Three, Buckland won the big game at the top against Appleton (Abingdon) by 1-0 and thus celebrated the championship.

The only goal of the game came when Steve Holder's deep cross caused confusion between Appleton's keeper and central defender and nestled in the back of the net.

In Division 4, Benson Lions held on to second place after their 2-0 win at Stanford-in-the-Vale Reserves, but Kingsclere kept in touch following a 3-1 win at Blewbury Reserves, courtesy of goals from Roger Jones (2) and Danny Toynes.

Bottom team Warborough Reserves are now relegated after their 3-2 defeat at Uffington United, for whom Simon Williams, Garry Haines and Nick Heron were on target.

In Division Five, Coleshill Reserves won 3-1 at Wootton Reserves, thanks to strikes by Pete Soanes (2) and Martin Chivers but Buckland need only a point to claim the runners-up spot behind Ardington.
