CRITICS of the Parker Plan have branded the idea as 'inadequate' saying it will fail to remove traffic from the A36 and other congested roads to the south and west of Salisbury.
Romy Wyeth from Codford said the route was no alternative to a Salisbury bypass which was dropped by the government in 1997. She claimed traffic travelling to the south coast and city centre would still use the shorter route on the dangerous A36 and Mrs Wyeth also slammed plans to build a new dual carriageway across the tranquil Woodford Valley near Old Sarum.
"This plan does not offer a long awaited bypass to the medieval city of Salisbury, it is not an alternative to the bypass, a road that would have addressed major routes from all around the city. I believe it would be an act of vandalism to destroy Old Sarum's setting, even if it would alleviate the World Heritage Site at Stonehenge - and I do not believe that it would."
