ROCK star and poverty campaigner Sir Bob Geldof met MP for South Swindon Julia Drown yesterday to talk about debt in the third world.

He was meeting with more than 30 MPs and the Bishop of Portsmouth, representing faith leaders, at Westminster to call on the Government to honour a promise to give 0.7 per cent of national income to overseas aid.

The Government was discussing their budget allocation for the next three years.

Sir Bob said: "I'm sick of sitting with Tony and Gordon and hearing of grandiose schemes and guff about African scars.

"If they really want to get rid of the scars and give the African Commission real cred-ibility then they must increase aid to 0.7 per cent."

He showed pictures of malnourished children, saying: "Their poverty is our impoverishment" and called on the Chancellor to put his money where his mouth is.

Labour's Ms Drown, who has been leading the campaign in the House of Commons, said: "Taking action today could save millions of lives.''

She said: "A total of 218 MPs have signed a parliamentary motion calling for 0.7 per cent because their constituents are demanding aid increases."
