The atmosphere here in Portugal is not too bad, considering what has happened, writes the Advertiser's man in Portugal Andy Heron.

People are talking about the stabbing, but nobody really seems to know quite what has gone on, because we are quite far from Lisbon.

Basically, people are just talking about it and waiting for the English newspapers to become available so we can learn more details.

The first we heard of it was when we woke up yesterday morning we'd just got back from the Croatia match in the early hours.

We're all a bit upset, but I don't think anybody really knows the full story.

We know that what happened was apparently not related to the football, but some of us are a bit worried that some idiot will get the idea of taking revenge somehow.

We're especially worried about that happening if England lose their quarter final game with Portugal tomorrow.

It would be a great shame if something like that happened because the atmosphere here has been very good and very peaceful.

The fans have been very well behaved. Before the Croatia game in Lisbon, we were chatting to people from Croatia, Lithuania, lots of places, and everybody was very relaxed and friendly.

The match was really good. We set off for Lisbon from here quite early.

There were about 5,000 England supporters at the ground, and the main parking area for us was a shopping centre nearby.

Everybody was good-natured. Some were using the fountains to cool off because it was so hot!

Coming home was a bit of a nightmare because there were so many England supporters' cars and it was a toll road, so there were some delays.

But again, the mood was good-natured, with people sounding their horns and singing.

I just hope that the tragedy doesn't change that mood.
