TODAY is deadline day for Tommy Mooney with Andy King adamant that the striker's future will be resolved one way or another by close of play.

The County Ground boss had not heard from the 32-year-old by the time yesterday's official contract response time limit had expired.

Although the club is now legally able to withdraw their contract offer, King decided to grant Mooney, who is currently on holiday, a 24-hour extension.

The manager said: "There was only silence and no news isn't always good news. We'll see.

"I have decided that I want to know which way things are going to go with Tommy before the weekend.

"I really want to speak to Tommy myself to hear his final decision but if it's through his agent then so be it.

"All I can say is that the offer is there and that it is a reasonable offer.

"If Tommy decides his future lies elsewhere then I need to know so I can try and use those funds and hopefully use them quickly."

Mooney is the only remaining contract question mark with David Duke now having committed himself to the club for another year.

The new campaign for Duke and friends will start with a trip to Wrexham but boss King is not really interested in studying the 2004-5 fixture list at this moment in time.

He said: "We have to play everyone in this league at some stage and I'm not worried about it just now to be honest.

"What concerns me at this moment is getting my squad together for that first match at Wrexham."

Although King's primary concern is the first team he is also looking to cater adequately for his young hopefuls at the County Ground.

He said: "One of my priorities is to get in a youth team coach before we resume training.

"I have approached both Paul Bodin and Shaun Reid but neither of them are able to take it on."

One of the other names in the frame is former Town assistant boss Mike Walsh.

King hopes to make a decision on the post in the next few days.
