28394ONE of the biggest events in Wiltshire Music Centre's calendar took place at the centre this week, but instead of making music volunteers were stuffing envelopes.

Volunteers stuck labels, folded letters, franked envelopes and filed mail bags to send more than 10,000 copies of the Bradford on Avon-based centre's new brochure out to the public.

Viv Norfolk, who organises the envelope stuffing, said: "It's a big job but fun and it's good to see how much faster we can get each season."

Centre manager Susie Fry said: "We are always so grateful to all the volunteers who help with our brochure mailings.

"It is a massive undertaking every time but has a great atmosphere and we couldn't do it without them."

Volunteers make a contribution to many other aspects of the centre.

More than 150 are trained house managers and stewards.

Some also work in the box office taking bookings and dealing with inquiries.

Over 6,600 hours of time is given by volunteers each year, which works out as at least £30,000 worth of work.

With an annual turnover of £350,000 a year, the centre, which is a charity, relies heavily on this contribution.
