15342/6A TROWBRIDGE hairdresser swapped his scissors for spikes to raise more than £2,000 for a Wiltshire charity.

Nigel Evans, of Nigel's Hair Designs in Duke Street, collected £2,350 off his customers for Shaw Trust Palmer Gardens, in Trow-bridge, after running the London marathon.

Shaw Trust is a charity aimed at providing opportunities and training for people who are disabled or are from a disadvantaged background.

Mr Evan's sponsorship money has gone towards funding a new caf at Palmer Gardens that will provide more opportunities for those that use the charity.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex will officially open the caf next Tuesday.

Shaw Trust Palmer Gardens manager James Vincent, said: "Through the gardens we already give people experience in horticulture and retailing and now the caf will give us the chance to teach catering.

"Nigel's effort was absolutely brilliant and we did not expect him to raise as much as he did."

This was the second time Mr Evans, 36, has run the London marathon.

He said: "I was absolutely over the moon with the amount I managed to collect. It was a lot more than I ever expected.

"I think it was because I am well known in the area and a lot of people respect the work the Shaw Trust does."
