Ref. 31032-56THERE were some gruesome spectacles on show at Swindon College.

Zombies and vengeful brides made up the showcase of student talent.

The event was staged by Year 2 students on the Media Make-up course as part of their final assessment.

The darker side of home improvement shows was also portrayed with a scary take-off of Handy Andy from BBC's Changing Rooms.

An audience of 160 watched as each student's handiwork was unveiled at the North Star campus. Models had been given theatrical make-up, costumes and hair, which were designed to give maximum fright effect.

Course tutor Elly Baskerville said the show, which goes towards the students' BTEC National Diploma, was a great success.

"I think it was fab because it really sent them off on a high," she said.

"They have worked for this for at least three months, planning for it.

"The evening couldn't have gone any better."

Elly had the idea for students to perform an end-of-year show and she said the inaugural one had been such a success it was likely to replace the usual exhibition next year as well.

"They work so hard I think it's just nice for them to do something like this. At the end of the day, that's what they want to do showcase their work to the public," she said.

The night was hosted by Phil Walker, who runs Swindon-based entertainments agency Hemlock Productions. The show was originally going to be held in the small training restaurant, but demand was so high the venue was changed to the student canteen.

Trainee chefs also had the chance to shine as they provided the food for the event.
