ROMAN Centurions were on guard duty yesterday when rare examples of Anglo-Saxon jewellery arrived at the new Corinium museum.

The seventh century treasures were uncovered in an archaeological dig at Lechlade 19 years ago, but are going on show for the first time when the museum in Cirencester re-opens after a £5 million revamp. Included in the display will be a gold pendant with a blue glass setting, found buried with the body of a young child, and a large cabochon garnet pendant set in gold discovered in the grave of a man and a toddler.

The refurbished museum is due to open its doors for the first time in two-years on September 15.
