CORSHAM captain Neil Shardlow insists his side have enjoyed a successful season after Saturday's 77 run victory over Taunton moved them up to fifth place in the Premier Division.

After losing five key players during the winter, Shardlow admits survival was the main target and with two matches left their league status has been assured for next season.

He said: "We have been a bit Jekyll and Hyde this season but when we play well, we really do play well.

"That was a really good win and shows the season has not all been doom and gloom.

"In fact after losing so many players, I am satisfied with how we have done and if we can pick up one more win from our last two matches I think we can say it has been quite successful."

Opener batsman Pete Dennett top scored for the home side, scoring 88 off 110 balls, while Kaushik Aphale, (58) and Roger Silence (38) helped the hosts to 231-7 off 55 overs.

In reply, Corsham made an immediate breakthrough, as Roger Sillence bowled James Trundley, 0, to leave the visitors on 1-1.

Opener Simon Taylor (31) steadied the innings but when Sillence caught him off the bowling of Paul Clifford with the score at 57-2, a Corsham victory seemed inevitable.

Taunton's next six wickets fell for just 51 runs and despite a spirited last wicket between Brian Hoyle (29) and Sam Wadham (3) they were bowled out for 154.

Richard Foley took four wickets for 40 runs off 16 overs, while Clifford finished with 3-23 and Aphale, Sillence and Toby Sharpe took a wicket apiece.
